Prompted 365: Days 128-137

8 May: Hug
Joseph is distrustful of my hugs because he’s scared I’ll tickle him. Which I only do, like, half the time.
My friend Katrina had an excellent comment on this photo: “I love how a lot of your shots of Joseph have that ‘capturing a rare creature on film’ look/feel!” It’s very true! He is so difficult to get in the frame because he runs quickly at the sight of a camera.

10 May: Read
That craziness appearing just to the left of my face is a plant, not my wild hair.

11 May: Eyes

13 May: Future
This is one of my favorite photos to date. It looks great on black over at Flickr.
I finally bought a tripod (considering the number of self-portraits I take, I’m not sure how I ever did without!) and found a secluded spot to take advantage of the landscape of Texas. I was out there for about an hour and am not sure what to do with all the photos. I thought about posting them here but that seems a bit egotistical. Let me know if anyone is interested in seeing them!

14 May: Baked
You’ve likely already seen this image and the recipe to go along. May 14 was a great excuse to bake something pretty.

15 May: Company
Courtney, me, and Liz. A big “thank you” to Liz’s friend Ryan for snapping the photos of us!
These ladies kept me company through a great semester of Shakespeare followed by a fairly tough semester of Tudor Court literature. Liz just graduated and moved to Florida, and Courtney will be heading home to California after her graduation this summer. They are basically trying to get as far away from me (and each other, apparently) as possible while still remaining in the continental US ;) We took this photo at Liz’s graduation/birthday/bon voyage party.

16 May: Copy
Copies of my sister’s graduation announcement and invitation. I took Tori’s senior portraits a few weeks ago, so seeing them on her invitations was very cool.

17 May: Gross
This is not gross to me–quite the opposite, actually–but I know it is to many. Actually thinking about Sonic’s chili cheese fries makes me realize they are quite gross, but I still have my weaknesses (i.e. cravings).

I just realized I am in every photo except for the one of Leonardo’s eyes, and that day I originally took a photo of my eyes that I decided not to use. I must be getting bored of this project. Though my still life photography is not yet where I’d like, I find self-portraits a bit more fun. The photos take much more work when I’m the one both in front of and behind the camera, but I like the challenge

I am glad you got a tripod and had fun out in the wilderness! It’s fun taking self portraits out in the middle of nowhere!

it would NOT be egotistical to post those pictures, I’d love to see them!!

Also, if you ever go visit Liz in Florida, don’t forget to stop in Orlando!

Well, if Emily Post says it’s okay ;) I wrote up the post but am still unsure. It feels so strange to me! But I am very proud of the photos! It’s not even about the subject (it would be nice to photograph someone else for a change, ha) but the photos themselves.

You are definitely on the list for any upcoming Florida visits–and Kat too next time!

I love all of these, but Copy and Future really stand out to me. (Especially Future.)

Thank you! I actually felt like Copy was my weakest and nearly did not include it in this post. It’s always interesting (and often surprising) to see what other people like.

I love the hug photo and the kitty eyes! There is just so much emotion and feeling in the hug photo, it’s awesome. Do you use a timer or remote? Turned out great!

Alyssa, I love those pictures of you in the field &the one of you reading! So pretty. I still feel really weird taking self portraits. I don’t think I’m good at them and they never turn out the way I want them to! Need to practice.

Also, I have that same J.Crew blouse, but in green! I love it, even if it is a bit big. Unfortunately it’s at the cleaners after I decided it was a good idea to eat a peach in the car on the way to work! haha

Thank you, Diane! My self-portraits never exactly turn out the way I image either. It’s hard to being behind the camera!

I remember you told me about your J. Crew blouse when I was considering buying mine. I love it but, yeah, I don’t wear it much because it’s so gigantic. I think I’ve only worn it four times because I have a hard time making outfits with it (and generally don’t look so great in poorly-fitted clothes).

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
